BOTOX

Erase the signs of aging

BOTOX is most popular medical non-surgical cosmetic procedure that is used for improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkles and lines such as frown lines between the brows and crows feet near the eyes.

BOTOX (onabotulinumtoxinA) is a purified protein which, when injected, is able to block the nerve impulses and temporarily paralyzes and relax the underlying facial muscles, which cause wrinkles. So the wrinkles in that area temporarily go away.

The effect lasts from three to eight months, depending on the individual patient and indication. As muscle action gradually returns, the lines and wrinkles begin to re-appear and wrinkles need to be re-treated. The lines and wrinkles often appear less severe with time because the muscles are being trained to relax. By injecting the toxin directly into a certain muscle or muscle group, the risk of the BOTOX procedures spreading to other areas of the body is greatly diminished.

BOTOX procedures were approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) since 1989. As BOTOX is widely available at Medi-Spas now, it is no longer just for the rich and fabulous; it became affordable for the public.

What Are the Side Effects of BOTOX?

Temporary bruising is the most common side effect. Headaches, which resolve in 24-48 hours, can occur, but this is rare. A small percentage of patients may develop eyelid drooping. This usually resolves in three weeks. This development is usually caused by migration of the Botox and for this reason, you shouldn’t rub the treated area for 12 hours after injection or lay down for three to four hours. There have been no allergies associated with Botox to date.
